Once again this year the BIOCARD Study team has organized a series of virtual presentations, known as the BIOCARD Participant Forum. The goal of these presentations is to provide updates on the overall progress of the study, as well as to discuss recent scientific findings of interest.<\/p>\n

Marilyn Albert, PhD, is Professor of Neurology and Director of the Division of Cognitive Neuroscience in the Department of the Neurology at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. She is also the Director of the Johns Hopkins Alzheimer\u2019s Disease Research Center.<\/p>\n
Her research focuses on understanding the cognitive and brain changes in aging and neurodegenerative disorders such as AD. Dr. Albert\u2019s research aims to identify the relationship between biomarkers based on imaging, cerebrospinal fluid, blood and genetics to cognitive changes and the early diagnosis of AD. Her research was the first to show the characteristic feature of delayed recall in AD.<\/p>\n
Dr. Albert\u2019s work on the examination of risk and protective factors in progression from normal cognition to mild cognitive impairment incorporates the important concept of cognitive reserve. More recently her work has combined longitudinal studies with biomarkers and cognitive test scores to characterize the progression across the AD continuum.<\/p>\n

Meaghan Morris, MD, PhD, is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Pathology at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, co-leader of the Neuropathology Core of the Johns Hopkins Alzheimer\u2019s Disease Research Center (ADRC), and a member of the national ADRC Neuropathology Core Steering Committee. <\/span><\/p>\n Dr. Morris received her MD and PhD from the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. For her PhD research, she studied the roles of tau and alpha synuclein in mouse models of neurodegeneration. <\/span><\/p>\n Dr. Morris then completed her Anatomic Pathology residency and Neuropathology fellowship at Johns Hopkins and is certified by the American Board of Pathology in both Anatomic Pathology and Neuropathology. He earned his medical degree from the University of South Florida in Tampa. After medical school, he completed a medical internship at Johns Hopkins Bayview followed by a residency in psychiatry and a fellowship in geriatric psychiatry and movement disorders research at The Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland.<\/p>\n Prior to joining UF Health, he was an associate professor of psychiatry and behavioral sciences at The Johns Hopkins Hospital, where he co-founded and directed a movement disorder clinic that provided comprehensive psychiatric care for patients with Parkinsons disease and related neurological disorders. He also co-founded a mental health counseling program that extended care to spouses, families and caregivers of patients with neurological disorders.<\/p>\n As a physician, his goal is to provide the most up-to-date, evidence-based treatments for cognitive and psychiatric disorders that occur in patients with Parkinson’s disease. In order to improve care for the future, he provides access to clinical trials and research that advances knowledge regarding the diagnosis, treatment and mechanistic causes of cognitive impairment and psychiatric disorders in Parkinson’s disease.
